If a computer to match the brain’s potential was built, it would occupy space comparable to the size of the Empire State Building (1,250 feet tall) and need 1,000,000,000 watts of electrical power to run. The cost would be equally immense. The mind is one of God’s most amazing gifts to man. Yet most people use only a small fraction of their mental ability. For many, the power remains largely untapped.” (The Plain Truth, October 1988, p. 29) The brain is indeed one of God’s most astonishing gifts to humankind. Yet even the greatest scientists use only a fraction of its potential. The vast higher capacities of the human mind remain largely untapped. A research article titled “Our Amazing Mind” was published in the September 1989 issue of the American magazine Span. Written by William F. Allman, Senior Editor of U.S. News & World Report, it explains that research on the brain has expanded so rapidly that it has become a separate scientific discipline known as “brain science.” The discoveries made in this field represent nothing less than an explosion of knowledge. One scientist has described the brain as a “thinking engine.” Yet this description is far from adequate. The way in which the brain’s hundred billion neurons work in perfect harmony, making distinctions between countless things in a fraction of a second, is beyond the capability
