THE CALLOF THE QURAN ~ 109 ~ THE CALLOF THE QURAN A MUSLIM’S MOST SACRED DUTY In addition to its being the duty of every Muslim man, woman and child to study the Quran and follow it, the communication of its message to nonMuslims is also obligatory. It is pre-eminently the responsibility of the Muslims to convey the Message of the Quran to other nations. Therefore, the Quran urges them over and over again to carry out this task: ‘By means of this (Quran), strive with them, with the utmost strenuousness.’ In his last sermon the Prophet Muhammad also urged his followers to convey the message of the Quran ‘even if only a single ayah.’ Therefore, the greatest need of the hour is to acquaint non-Muslims with this message in a language and style which is understandable to them, as the Prophet—and through him all the believers—is enjoined in the Quran: ‘O Messenger, proclaim all that is revealed to you from your Lord. Unless you do it fully, you have not conveyed His message (at all). God will protect you from all people’ (5:67) Thus we must perform this task in all sincerity till the Last Day;
