Correspondence with Maulana Abu A’la Maududi
English book, p. 197
By Maulana Wahiduddin Khan
DISCUSSION AND CORRESPONDENCE My main concern is with your interpretation of the Islamic mission, or, in other words, the relationship you describe between the Shariah and the person it is meant to serve. This relationship does not seem to be supported by the Quran. Therefore, in my view, only the first part is fundamentally important. The significance of the second part, which involves practical outcomes, relies on the accuracy of the first. If the first part is proven wrong, then these outcomes—assuming they are accepted as facts—lack validity as conclusions based on a flawed theory. For now, I want to present only the first part of my theory. After reviewing the materials sent, you will see why I believe your interpretation is not based on the Quran. I have also included an article titled “The Correct Understanding of Religion,” where I try to explain, according to my understanding, what I think are the true requirements of religion. After reviewing all these writings, you will gain a complete understanding of my stance from a theoretical point of view. I hope that, after considering them, you will reply with a clear and detailed response. Sincerely, Wahiduddin
