A Lesson from the Farewell Pilgrimage

This wisdom is encapsulated in the Prophet’s sermon during the Farewell Pilgrimage: The Prophet Muhammad said, “Indeed, time has reverted to its original state, as it was on the day God created the heavens and the earth. And indeed, the number of months with God is twelve.” (Maghazi alWaqidi, Vol. 3, p. 1112) This means that after the completion of the 33-year cycle, the 9th of Dhul Hijjah once again coincided with the original 9th of Dhul Hijjah. This is in accordance with the natural order. The previous artificial calendar was abolished, and henceforth, Hajj would be observed every year in Dhul Hijjah according to the natural calendar.
