Here is a piece of good news. Malcolm Oates from England who has been staying in Suat, and sometimes with us here in Peshawar, has accepted Islam and his name is now Abdul Malik. Before taking this decision, at the beginning of April 1986, (I do not have the exact date but think it was 7th April, 1986, i.e. 26 Rajab). Al-Risala (English) was the only literature he had read on Islam. He started reading it in October 1985. Since then, he has read an article from Al-Risala every day. He made a point of never missing a single reading. He found the articles easy reading because they were short, compelling, and to-the- point. His decision to accept Islam came, while I was away. On my return yesterday, I asked him about the factors which had made him make the Islamic way of life his own. His reply was, "A friend of mine gave me Al-Risala, which I read with an open mind. I found it very interesting, because I was reading about Islam for the first time. It was well-edited, and well-presented... It shows that every experience, every bit of knowledge, is useful." One of the most impressive facts he learnt about Islam was that its Holy Book - The Quran - is pre- served in its original state. "I like the fact that it hasn't been altered," he said. "The fact that it is original is very important. If someone else wanted to know about Islam, I would give him the same magazines as you gave me (i.e. Al-Risala). They are up-to-date, in modern langu- age, and the examples given are relevant to life today." I hope this news has made you as happy and encouraged as it has made me.
